SWSC girls soccer players

Skill Development

Our pilot NY Storm program is built for our highly skilled, motivated, and dedicated players at the U11, U12, U13, and U14 single-age brackets. SWSC-NY Storm players are identified at team placements and will play on both an on-age EDP team combined with Ballston Spa players, and either a select or competitive SWSC team.

CDYSL/EDP Participation Expectations

Each NY Storm team is comprised of a tiered-player system - Roster, Guest, and Training - with players who must meet attendance requirements for practice, technical training, and games for both NY Storm and SWSC/BSSC programs in order to remain in good standing for NY Storm competition. Attendance requirements will be communicated and monitored by each head coach.

Will players have to choose NY Storm OR SWSC?

No - players will be on both teams.  The Storm is another layer for identified players, not in lieu of SWSC teams.  Storm will be lighter in the Fall (only U11 and U12 will train and compete) and the winter (all ages will train and compete), and more active in the spring in conjunction with the SWSC teams.

We will encourage participation on both teams and have suggested attendance guidelines in our pilot year.

What changes at SWSC?

Nothing - this is an additional soccer opportunity for players.

Do we have to tryout for the NY Storm?

No - our coaching staff will watch the players during their club team placement dates and identify players during the normal placement process - there is nothing extra. Identified players will receive an email shortly after team placements end.

How many players are selected?

We're looking to create large training rosters and smaller game rosters. A larger training roster will allow more players to partake in this opportunity, while smaller game rosters will allow for more game time and game management. Most players will rotate through the game roster, but not everyone.

At U11 and U12, we'll select approximately 7-10 players from each individual age group, and at U13 and U14 we will select approximately 10-13 players from each age group.  BSSC will do the same.

Where does the Storm practice?

We practice locally, at the following locations depending on season and age:

  • Gavin Park

  • Luther Forest

  • Charb’s

  • Wilton YMCA

  • Local school gyms

  • Local turf fields

Will the Storm play games?

Yes.  In the fall, U11 and U12 Storm teams will participate in approximately one tournament and perhaps some scrimmages. U13 and U14 will not play in the fall due to school ball.

In the winter, each Storm team will participate in 2-3 tournaments, most likely in Jan/Feb.

In the spring, each Storm team will play in an EDP league (a premier league) and probably one higher-level tournament.

What happens after U14?

Our current plan is to add an additional older age group each year.  So, in the 2020-2021 season, we look forward to adding a U15 team.

Will NY Storm be offered to the boys?

Not in our pilot year. We're hopeful that this program is a success and we'll be able to create a similar program on the boys side in 2020-2021.

Does the NY Storm cost extra?

There is a nominal extra cost for the Storm - approximately $100 for Select team members and approximately $200 for Competitive team members. We're still finalizing costs.
